The challenge

Fun, offline-first learning for letters and numbers

Kids learn best through play. BalloonPop makes learning the alphabet and numbers a game: balloons float up with letters or numbers, and the child pops them in the right order. The Web Speech API reads each letter aloud as it's popped. The app works offline via a Workbox service worker and is packaged for iOS and Android via Capacitor — one codebase, three platforms.

Features

What we built

Six core capabilities that make the product what it is.

Alphabet Mode

Balloons labeled A–Z float up; kids pop them in order while the app reads each letter aloud. Mistakes are gently corrected, never penalized.

Number Mode

Same pop mechanic with numbers 1–20. Adjustable difficulty from 1–5 to 1–20 based on the child's skill level and confidence.

Text-to-Speech

Web Speech API reads each letter and number aloud as it's popped, reinforcing pronunciation alongside the visual — audio + visual learning.

Offline-first PWA

Workbox service worker caches all assets on first install. The game plays fully offline — no internet connection required after setup.

iOS & Android via Capacitor

Wrapped with Capacitor for native iOS and Android builds. One React codebase → web, App Store, and Google Play without separate codebases.

Accessibility

Reduced-motion support, high-contrast mode, and large touch targets designed for small fingers and young eyes — WCAG-aligned.
